How to Prepare for your Boudoir Session | Boudoir Photography Seattle
We are so excited that you are interested in a session that celebrates you! Whether you are here for yourself or to gift these photos to someone special in your life we will work together to create classic timeless images. Our mission is to showcase the beauty of you in this moment.
So many of our days are dedicated to the hustle and bustle of life. We give so much care and attention to others around us and tend to forget to take care of ourselves. Women’s portraiture sessions are created to give you a space in time to celebrate yourself in the present moment.
Traditional boudoir style portraits aren’t for everyone. We work at your comfort level to create artistic photographs from an ethereal perspective. This is a time to give yourself permission to love and accept yourself for who you are in this moment. While we will capture your outer beauty with our camera, the true gift is the self acceptance and love that will grow within as a result of taking this time for yourself.
By the way, if you are feeling nervous, you aren’t alone. Almost everyone is nervous about their boudoir session. Don’t worry though, after a few minutes in front of the camera you should feel relaxed, comfortable and you’ll be having so much fun that you’ll forget you ever felt nervous.

Styling your session
If you are bringing your own options, choose clothing that you feel good in. If you are uncomfortable in an outfit it is most likely not going to make you feel sexy. We usually use 2-3 options, but if you have a few more selections, feel free to bring them and we’ll narrow down to the final cut in person. Simplicity is always recommended but it can also be fun to experiment a bit.
If you’d like to remove the stress of choosing your own outfits, we have some beautiful pieces for your beauty or boudoir session including lush fabrics, specialty pieces, and dresses.

Hair and Makeup
If you have chosen to be pampered by our amazing hair and makeup artist all you need to do is arrive with a clean, moisturized face and dry hair. She will take it from there to ensure you are ready to rock your session with a style that is all yours. Taking this chore off your hands will allow you time to decompress and allow someone else to highlight you at your best, giving you even more confidence for an empowering beauty session
If you have chosen to tame your own mane and makeup, please make sure you arrive photo ready.
Girl look at that body
Having your hair cut or colored? Schedule your appointment 1-2 weeks before your session. This allows for the style to soften, and for you to have any corrections made if it doesn’t turn out exactly as you’d hoped for. Make sure to pluck, wax, or shave unwanted hair the day before. If you are trying a new option such as waxing, try this a week or more in advance in case you have an adverse reaction to the treatment.
Tanning? Indoor tanning, make sure you don’t overdo your time in the bed the days leading up to your session to avoid being red in your images. Outdoor tanning, use your sunscreen to make sure you don’t have crazy tan lines. If you plan to use tanning creams or sprays, please refrain from using them on the day of the session to prevent any of it rubbing onto your clothing, or onto our furniture.
Exfoliate! Removing dead skin the night before is a great way to refresh your skin and bring out your natural glow. This includes your face body and hands.
The Day Before The Day
Drink a lot of water for beautiful hydrated skin.
Get plenty of rest to avoid being and looking tired.
Eat as healthy as you can so your skin will be glowing.
Make a list so you remember everything you want to do or bring for your session.
Place clothing on hangers. Lingerie is very susceptible to wrinkling. If needed tumble in the dryer or steam so everything looks tidy.
Please remove all tags from your shoes, lingerie, underwear (especially if it is see though or lace) as they are not attractive in pictures. Doing this before your session means more time will be spent focusing on snapping photos instead of snipping tags.
Day of Session Checklist
Wear loose fitting clothing that won’t leave strap marks or lines which can take up to an hour to fade. (The worst offenders are bras, jeans and socks.)
Flip flops are great for avoiding sock lines.
Wear button or zip up tops that won’t mess your hair when removing them.
Pants that are loose fitting, possibly with drawstrings are best.
Choose clear deodorant so you don’t get white marks on your clothing.
Finger & toe nails will show. Take care to trim, shape, polish or pretty those digits.
Before you arrive at the studio, please make sure to eat! We want you feeling fantastic, not hangry.
Give yourself plenty of time. Feeling rushed is stressful and we want you to enjoy the day.
Do a happy dance. All your planning is done, and now it’s time for fun!
We look forward to creating images that you’ll treasure forever.
