When should you book your newborn session?
Do you know when the best time to schedule newborn photos is? Myself, and most experienced professional newborn photographers only take in a small amount of babies each month. We do this to make sure that we can schedule sessions for the clients that have booked and are waiting for their baby to arrive so they can capture all the details of their little one.
The majority of my clients book their newborn session within the first 3-6 months of pregnancy. I do get a few last minute bookings here and there. I’ve had Moms contact me after their baby was already a week old. If I have room to schedule them in I will but I can’t always.
One of the reasons newborn photographers only accept a limited amount of babies each month is that it is impossible to schedule newborn sessions and predict when baby will actually be born! Rarely is a baby actually born on his or her due date. I’ve had 2 babies this past year that were actually born at 25 and 27 weeks. I try to plan to have all my newborns spaced out for due dates on my schedule, but I have actually had 4 babies all arrive within 3 days of each other. Some 2 weeks early others 1 week late so they all end up coming at once.
Meet sweet baby Willa! For her session we wanted to incorporate soft neutrals with pops of pink. With Christmas right around the corner, her momma also wanted to sneak in some Christmas themed photos. This time of year is the best time to add little holiday touches and a few more prop items then I normally do. I’m in love with her dainty little features and soft blonde hair.
Parent photos with baby all tug at my heart strings. Time goes by way too fast where you can no longer hold baby in your arms. Baby snuggles are the fondest memories I have of my children and I love capturing that love and bond with new parents. Baby Willa’s parents sure knew how to turn on the charm and love for the camera. These are definitely some of my favorite parent photos!
